Strategy
Our investment activities concentrate on emerging, private
companies within the technology sector. Our particular focus
is on the enterprise software and wireless subsectors. We
believe that these subsectors provide a positive investment
environment in which companies have low financial valuations
and mature risk profiles, typically in the form of reference
customers and established products, resulting in an opportunity
to build a strong, long-term portfolio. The current economic
climate, especially compared to the climate of the past 24
months, is an opportune time to build a portfolio of investments
in the technology sector.
Why IT? – IT is Everywhere
Information is the foundation of today's economy and will
be one of the key factors driving economic growth in the decades
ahead. Information technologies are an integral part of people's
lives, businesses and society. New generations of processors,
overcapacity of optical fiber, broadband, increasing use of
the Internet for commerce, and important new core technologies
in hardware and software are all factors that are converging
to make information technology an important investment area.
There is an on-going convergence of factors in information
technology hardware and software that make investing in information
technology attractive. Historically, when similar convergences
have occurred – in 1958, 1970, 1976, and 1996 –
each factor (the integrated circuit, the microprocessor, the
PC, and the Internet) spawned tremendous investment opportunities.
We are not the only venture firm to believe this is an opportune
time to invest in IT.
In addition, we take comfort in the fact that investments
in IT historically provide a quicker realized return on investment
than other investment sectors, and that IT companies typically
are not subject to a regulatory review process before their
product is able to come to market.
